New to forum. Finally bought my first vintage drums! Thoughts and opinions please. Last viewed: 49 minutes ago

Well guys, I finally found a set of vintage Rogers drums in my area that I could afford. I am really new to all of this so I have a bunch of questions. I think I might have been a quick to purchase them however and wasn't very thorough while checking them out. Could you all please help with some questions I have?

What I'm really wondering first and foremost is what these drums are worth. I'm hoping I didn't get taken to the cleaners!

Are paper tags a complete deal breaker for all of the Rogers guys out there? Because sadly there aren't any.

Drum sizes are 22, 16, 14, 12 with a COB Powertone snare (Dayton). Snare wires look to be aftermarket(m.i.taiwan). Does that affect value?

All drums seem to be in original condition to the best of my knowledge. All mufflers are intact. All top and bottom heads say "Rogers weatherking a-1" Are these the original heads?

There is a little pitting and/or rust on the hardware.

Two of the T-rods have really bad chrome peeling. Should I just replace these or try having them re-dipped?

General condition of the (very boring) black wrap is good. Seems are really tight. Just lots of cosmetic scrapes and smudging. No real dents or gouges.

I do like the way they sound, except for the bass. Still have some tweaking to do there.

Let's not call the black wrap boring. I know, let's call it Jet Black. Actually it's one of my favorite Rogers finishes; makes the hardware and script logo stand out.

Just replace the bad tension rods. Someone on here will have them.

Also, change the heads out with new ones, but keep the original heads for later. Not being active in Rogers kit trading, not sure about the label issue.

Otherwise Welcome to the forum.

It's difficult to know if you paid too much without the figure.

I'm not a Rogers guy, so I couldn't answer anyway, but if they sound good and you enjoy playing them, why worry about what other people think?

And if these were an investment, doesn't your question come a bit late?

Looks like a real nice kit. Looks to be in good shape. If you like them and are comfortable with what you paid for them I would say just relax and enjoy them. Looks like a good score to me.

I paid $600 plus a Slingerland sound king snare(which was in mint original condition).

I'm figuring that it is Fullerton or '72? Is there any difference between those besides the tag?

Thanks Stallwart, you have a good point about the jet black color. It's growing on me.

Nice kit...

From thé script logos..and thé cast colletts (intériorité colors)& wht felt mufflers

Thèse are thé 9/72 séries @1973/75..usually hads small wht papertags inside.

Thèse are good drums ...as mentioned earlier...keep thé Rogers skins (put away for safe keepn) and replace with new ones...(recommend Evans hydralics or evans2 on toms (batters) / ambassators on thé bottoms & a Evans EQ 4 on thé bassdrum (batter)

Thé snare is easily worth $200 / Replace thé snare wires with a good grade set.! (puresounds 20 strands)...originals r hard to find and demand some coin...

Thé 5 drums are worth $700 if theres no issues..

If yr not happy with Black...remove and stain it yr choice...they would look great...

Enjoy them...

you probably got a decent price on those. They are good drums. Whatever parts you may need, you can find them on eBay, and ship to you as "parts." Could possibly be three ply shells. They should sound sweet.

I put my early Big R kit up today, they haven't been up for nearly a year. 24-13-16-18, and did not need to tune anything. Singly ply Ambassador coated on top, clears on bottom. PS3 on the BD batter, Fiberskyn2 with shield and Rogers logo on front.

Thanks for the tips everyone. I live in Oregon btw.

Sounds like I might not have gotten the best deal, but I'm looking forward to getting the best sounds I can get out of these puppies.
