New rogers dyno-matic pedal

Saw this and i thought i'd share it with you Rogers guys. This pedal looks very interesting and is an obvious tribute to it's forerunner, the Swivo-matic. I'm not going to pretend to know a lot about Rogers drums, but i do know some history because of you guys, and if this new pedal is as good as the original as many of you have claimed, then it should be even more awesome with the modern specs and durability. Yes Sir. This is a cool looking pedal. I also find it a bit odd that Tama's new "classic" pedal design, looks an awful lot like this Rogers Dyno-matic. Maybe some top secret designs were stolen from the Rogers camp by Tama spies ? LoLoLoLo Who knows? Anyway, here it is for you Rogers purists to peruse ;)

Cheers,

Rob

The pedal looks nice so does the snare drum. I'm not a rogers guy and like you have listened to some of the guys on VDF. Who is actually making rogers now. Wonder if they are going to produce a full range of drums. I know buddy rich did a few yrs with them.

... actually more than a few years Sean, 1960 to 1967! My opinion, Buddy never sounded better than when he was with Rogers! Not his playing mind you, as THAT is an absolute, his sound. Had Rogers not sold to CBS/Fender, Buddy would have most likely stayed with them. He actually liked Joe Thompson and Ben Strauss. The Rogers Buddy Rich Celebrity set is still quite revered today! I have a set of 1965's that I will take to the grave ... figuratively speaking of course! :) Been gigging these for close to 20 years straight. Here are a few pics for you!

Hi Tommy thanks for the info. All of your kits look great and buddy was a great drummer who inspired us all. I don't know the full history nor did I know the exact yrs buddy was with rogers. What is your opinion of the new rogers snare and bass drum pedal. Also tommy what was the last kit buddy played. I recently was watching a few clips and could not see any type of name on the drums....Thanks sean

Tommy, where on earth did you find yourself a 24" Cleveland era bass drum?! Those things are harder to find than their 18" bass drum counterparts!

IN SEARCH OF:
  • 1964-1966 Rogers 9x13 rack tom in silver sparkle. Beavertail lugs, flat grey Cleveland tag interior
  • 1964-1966 Rogers 22 OR 24x14 bass drum in silver sparkle. Beavertail lugs, flat grey Cleveland tag interior
  • 1959 Rogers Holiday 5x14 snare drum in blue sparkle. Serial number #13382. Large double sided bread and butter lugs. Part of my kit that was split up before I purchased it. Bring the snare home!

I have not seen the new pedal yet. The snare drum? I haven't been able to buy one of the 5x14 snare drums yet. But.... I have two 6.5x14. And while there are obvious differences with the original build, this is a Dyna-Sonic and glorious. Drum numbers D1021 and D1073

Sean!

Ploughman has thoughtfully chimed in on the NEW Rogers Dynasonic .. and .. I have zero experience with them as I haven't grabbed one. I have two 60's era wood Dynasonics .. a 1967 and a 1968, both WMP .. and two COB 7 line Dynasonic's, so I didn't see the "need" for one of the NEW models. "Need" in quotes as I would love to have one! Everything I have heard has been completely positive, as Jack/Ploughman can certainly attest! Just no pressing "need" for me at present. As to the new updated Swivo: I don't believe the pedal is available yet? I think I read that it's due for release this summer though .. so .. there will be plenty of reviews! Again .. for me .. I have my 60's era Swivo-Matics as my main pedal, and those are still GREAT! I would love to try the new model of course, but again, have no real "need" ... but it would be nice! :) Regarding Buddy's last set: That was a set of restored 1940's Slingerland Radio Kings that were given to Buddy as a gift by the guy that restored them: Joe MacSweeney of the EAMES Drum Co. located in MA. The set was NOT a complete set, but cobbled together from a bunch of survivors. Joe completely went through them and got 'em all in perfect shape and wrapped in WMP. Buddy played those 'till his passing in 1987. Joe presented them to Buddy in 1983!

Right??!! 'Tis true ... a flay gray interior Cleveland 14X24 is RARE! However, it was indeed added after the fact. My '65 Buddy Rich Celebrity's came with a 14X22 from the factory, as many did and/or were ordered that way back in the 60's it seems. I found the 14X24 out in NY around 10 years ago. It was a single drum .. and .. virgin at that. Must have been with a double bass set originally I'm thinking. Couldn't believe my luck, so I grabbed instantly. Wasn't an eBay find or anything like that. Was one of those "friend of a friend" type deals ... and I just couldn't believe it. Anyway, I SOLD the 14X22, and of course kept the 14X24! 14X18? Well, I gots me one of those too ... and it's also mid 60's flat gray interior. It's part of my "little" jazz/bop set. I play those a LOT with the smaller groups I work with .. although .. miked up, they can sound huge! Here's a pic/two from a couple different gigs for you!

That's nuts! Talk about an amazing find. I've been keeping my eye out for one of those 24's for ages, without ever spotting ONE! I'm waiting for the day where I find a shady Craigslist add selling drum cases and inside is a 24/13/14/16 kit with a matching 6.5 wood Dyna, all picked up for $100. A man can dream, right?!? Cool Dude

That 18" bass drum looks stunning as well! I had an 18" bass drum a while back as well - it was a black and gold duco drum that someone (pretty badly) wrapped over with silver sparkle. Tama lugs and hardware all around, and the paper badge was missing. I sold it to a friend of mine who is majoring in jazz drumming down at the University of Hartford.

Beautiful drums!

Luke

I'm curious about this pedal but really I prefer the original with its more minimalist and streamlined design which I think the new Tama actually captured better (though they didn't keep the lever clamp unfortunately...copyright?). Will be interesting to read user experiences as these start to sell more and more.
