Closer to 4 7/8" but who's counting!!
I had an 8" X 13" Kent champagne sparkle tom which at some point, had suffered some water damage (before I owned it), but only on the outter edge of one side. I decided to try and convert this shell into a piccolo snare, just for the experience and fun of it.
The wife was kind enough to get me a table router for my B-Day so I finally had the last tool needed in my arsenal to do a proper drum resto/rehab/mod, without having to schlep my shells over to a friends house.
Anyhoo... I got started tonight. I cut the shell down from 8" to 5" and then cut some 45 degree bearing edges on it. I plan to use some original Kent lugs with shorter tension rods as well as a piccolo style strainer which I'll need to order from drummaker.com.
Before and after pics to come soon!
