New Ludwig LR2983MT rail mount?

Loading...

Does anyone know if Ludwig's new LR2983MT rail mount will retro-fit the holes of the 60's bass drums with the original tom rail mount? This part is listed on their parts pdf on the website, but no picture. There's one on ebay now, and after seeing a picture of it, curiosity has set in...

I can't say for sure but it sure does look like it would bolt up. Maybe try asking the seller a question about what the boltup pattern is?

I spoke to a Ludwig sales rep last week who said that the holes for the new rail mounts DO NOT line up with those of the 60's and 70's. Lame

I might try to put something together with a multi clamp and an l rod like this...

I just spoke with Greg at Ludwig and he stated that the new rail has a larger footprint and will not fit the Keystone badged drums. The rail itself is also of a larger diameter, so you cannot place the new "strap" over the original rail. Another solution is a rail package produced by Steve Maxwell Vintage & Custom Drums, located in NY: 212-360-9881 & Chicago: 312-730-8138. His rail is of the same diameter as the old Ludwig one, but employs 2 screws instead of 4. The good news is that if your rail is in good shape, you can keep that and just use the rest of the setup. I have a '67 20" Keystone badge bass drum with this installed and it works great. The whole setup is $140, but if I remember correctly, they may accommodate you if you do not need the whole setup. Their WEB site is: www.maxwelldrums.com

The Maxwell rail consolette is listed by itself in the left hand column with their offerings. Hope this helps.
