I recently purchased an old ludwig kit off of craigslist and could really use some help dating it. All of the badges have been removed, i was told this was done by the original owner, so i cant date it that way and to be honest i dont know much about vintage drums. I was told that the bass drum and toms are from the late 60's or early 70's and that the snare was added later in the 80's. The snare is the only drum with a badge on it but there is no number on the badge. From what I've seen on this site and from combing e-bay and craigslist i think the kit looks more late 70's/80's to me but again i dont know much about vintage drums.
heres what ive got:
8x9 tom
10x9 tom
12x10 tom
13x12 tom
16x15 tom
22x18 bass drum
14x6 snare
The 8" tom looks to be about 3 plys while the larger toms go up to 5 ply. The mounting system is a corkscrew looking end with a tube on the other end that slides all the way into the drums. The interior of the drums is unpainted and left natural.
i originally got the kit to use as a practice kit at home since i keep mine at my bands studio. But if its worth something i may fix her up and give her some tlc and sell it. The shells themselves are in great shape but there are missing tension rods, random bolts and screws missing as well as a crack in one of the bass drum hoops.
any help i can get on dating the kit and what it may be worth is much appreciated! thanks in advance!
