Looks 40s to me, what with that tacked-on head on the tom. Or is it a Renown or Dixieland perhaps? I think this catalogue pic is from the 50s... Great find in the garbage! You'd never find something like that over here in Oz!

The one tom looks to have once had a tacked on bottom head and then was converted to a double tension tom using tube lugs and a wooden hoop. I'm guessing that is a 12x14 which was a standard mounted tom size at the time.

The art deco-ish "Rocket" lugs would be from some time before the early 1950's when Gretsch switched to the smoother design they still use today. I'd guess these are from sometime after WWII. A good ballpark would be 1946-1950.

Good on you for making the rescue, and you will be handsomely rewarded on eBay. You probably found many hundreds of dollars worth of gear in that trash.

The snare alone would have been quite a find. I am not a Gretsch expert, though.

If you are able, it would be a good idea to take some individual photos of the cymbals and close-ups of the stamped logos on them, so that the cymbal experts on here can weigh in. With a set that old, if the cymbals are of similar vintage, and if they are Zildjian, they might be worth some big money as well.

Again, not an expert on vintage cymbal prices, but there are some here.

I'm thinking it could be something along these lines (see pic) - I'm no Gretsch expert, but there are guys here who are.

This catalogue pic is from 1941 and shows the duco shells and the tacked-on tom head, so I think I'm on the right track. Measure up the shells though and get what actual sizes you have. Take some pics of inside the drums as well and post them up. We need to see any badges, tags, labels etc. Lovely looking drums though...

I'm thinking post war (after 1945) due to the die cast hoops on the snare...but I don't know for sure when they went to those.
