Need Help Identifying Vintage Zildjian Cymbal

Loading...

hi everyone. i want to begin by saying i know nothing about cymbals, i'm just a guy that's broke and trying to make a little extra money selling on ebay. with that said, i found this cymbal today in a thrift store. it measures 20.25 inches across. i was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is, that is to say, is it a ride? also, if anyone knows the approximate age of this cymbal, that would help. it does have a small crack, but it doesn't go all the way through. the crack is about an inch in length. also, what do you think it might be worth. any info would be greatly appreciated...thanks

I don't think you will get much for it with the crack. Maybe $15-20 if your lucky.

Age is 1960's, go here for more, and like the previous person said, with the crack, it's not worth much.

True the crack is a problem, but I'm sure you're aware that its probably fixable by drilling a small hole at either end to prevent spreading. If its a good sounding cymbal its definitely worth the effort.

Looking very closely at this bell at the area where the crack is, it seems it goes around the bell as well. This cymbal is like going to lose the bell if played much more. That's too bad, as a good sizzle ride is nice to have in your arsenal.

Looks like a 60s sizzle ride cymbal probably fairly thin, without damage it's easily worth well over $100 with the cracks, and I see one cross the grooves and another as Jonni said along the tonal groove (lathing) so you have a cymbal that many people wouldn't touch. still, if you make a sound file of it and put a link to that on the auction, as well as several more pictures of all the details, you may be able to maximize your profit. I highly doubt you could get anywhere over $50 and usually cymbals cracked in that manner are in the $10-$30 range, depending on if there's someone who likes the sound of it. Not seeing how far that crack runs, if it is local to the area pictured, it should last a long time if not played by a neanderthal.
