need advice

Loading...

I've been restoring a set of ludwig rockers and I'm happy with all except the floor Tom. One thing after the next has seemed to go wrong with this. I believe i have damaged the veneer on this drum. Ive sanded and sanded and I've just made things worse. at the moment i have spray painted the entire thing black. Im thinking of totally stripping this thing down to bare wood. Does anyone have any ideas. this is the other drums before and after. well i can't get the pictures to work. This 16 inch tom is terrible though. Any advice would be great. It has strips spaced around 4 inches apart where i sanded too deep. they are visible through the paint.

Welcome to the VDF! If you can a few photos posted that would greatly help evaluate your best course of action. Judging from what I read though a wrap may be your best bet. We'd have to see how " too deeply " you sanded. There is the possibility of filling those spaces with food filler.

If you were to get wood filler ( one that is natural wood color ) you could fix that up. You dug in a little, but I don't think you've gone too deep. The other ( likely less desirable option ) would be to sand the rest of drum to the same level.

I would pick a really cool wrap and do em all. Nice kit, I love those mach lugs on Ludwig drums. Red Sparkle would look killer with all that chrome!

Best of luck with your kit. If you need any help, you came to the right place.

Welcome to VDF!

Too many great drums to list here!

I`m trying to figure out why you sanded and sanded and where the damage is.

Take the drum off the wall and stand it up in good light take close ups.

Did you chip out pieces, scratch across the grain, because all you`ve done is remove finish.

I would leave the leg mount footprint because it says it`s your drum.

Your entire sanding time should be with the grain.
