Mystery Turkish(?) Arabic Stamp - Not an Old K Con

Loading...

eBay seller says this is a K Constantinople but I'm not so sure. Has anyone here ever seen this stamp before? It does not match even the very old early 1900's or prior K Con stamps that I've seen examples of. But it does appear Arabic.

Lookin for some info on this one.

Well it`s Navy, and they have a Base in Turkey for over 60 years now.

Drumaholic says there are or were a few Zildjian wannabee`s in Turkey.

see: http://www.vintagedrumforum.com/showthread.php?t=12039&highlight=ersatz+k

You may need to reorient yours to see it is more of a match for the Ersatz K stamp on the left of Drumaholic's comparison than the earliest K Zildjian Constantinople stamp he shows there.

Hmm, I don't see that comparison no matter how I orient my photo. Maybe it's a different knockoff. I really don't think it could be a real K Con.

The one on the left is most likely your stamp,...it was struck differently and probably a duplicate die,...I see everything in it as in yours. Yours is very faded and some of it is no longer there.

The one on the cymbal you are asking about isn't exactly the same as the ersatz k one Drumaholic showed. That's why I said "is more of a match" rather than "is exactly the same". Sorry if I wasn't clear enough. There are a number of different ersatz k stamps, and I suspect that Drumaholic may have a collection of different photos. You can actually see two different versions in that thread I linked to. The original question showed a different one from the one which Drumaholic used in his comparison. The ersatz k stamps share certain pictorial elements which are different from the pictorial elements in the K Zildjian Constantinople stamps. I'll see if I can annotate the differences.

So here we are with some annotated pictures. I don't have an existing naming convention to use, so I'm making up names for the pictorial elements. Here is the comparison annotated

and the original stamp from the thread which is different in some details from the one Drumaholic used, but I've shown some common pictorial elements

Then the one you are asking about with some pictorial elements shown

and finally a K Zildjian Constantinople stamp showing some of the common pictorial elements it shares with the K Con example Drumaholic gave.

I have only given a brief sketch of what actually gets done to do proper artifact analysis using pictorial attributes. Hopefully you see what I mean now. The stamp impression you are asking about isn't all that clear and the photo is quite small. If we had a better and bigger photo we might be able to see a bit more.
