> how did u keep from being excited like a kid on xmas
LOL - my wife, Bev asked me the same thing. It just means you don't want to sit across from me in a poker game.
Dude, it was all I could do to keep from jumping up and down in front of the guy. I kept a straight face, stayed calm, handed over the cake, and brought my drums home.
Some work to do, but thankfully nothing major or terribly expensive. Here's a little report on the condition of the kit as I received it:
The shells are 3-ply mahogany! Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany. All bearing edges are clean and smooth.
Bass drum: Wrap is DIRTY, but in excellent condition. The drums had to have been stored in a dark place for the wrap to be as bright as it is under all that dirt and dust. One hoop is a metal MIJ that needs to be replaced, (fortunately, I have a 22" Ludwig hoop from a 60's kit!) and all the claws need replacing. I have 20 vintage WFL claws that will fit and look perfect. Hoop needs sanding and repainting. Other than that, the bass drum is complete, has no extra holes and is in overall great condition.
The two 12" toms are in 8.5/10 condition and they only need the reso hoops and tension rods to complete them. I already have 1 12" Luddy hoop so All I need is 1 to finish the toms.
The floor tom is perfect. 9/10. Only needs to be cleaned and new skins.
All the shells and bearing edges are perfect. No extra holes or damage anywhere. No rash, no cracks, no problems. I really lucked out with this one.
Last but not least, the kit included a 5" x 14" pre-serial COB super Ludwig. I'm in the process of detailing it as we speak. Crimped beds, chrome over brass shell, hoops and lugs. P-83 looks like new.
See photos. Sorry for fuzziness... I'm going to have to start using a tripod to steady my shots.
Enjoy,
John
