O.K. finally here’s the dope on this one. It came from a music store in NYC called "Queensboro Institute of Music" (est. 1938) which went out of business in the late 1980's. Apparently these were in storage somewhere in the back because although they have some fingerprints on them, they have no stick marks from playing at all. It came in the original plastic bag with the item number from the catalogue as well as the original price written the bag as well. I matched by researching old Gretsch catalogue price lists for Ajahas and found a match with 1966. One other interesting thing is that the "Ajaha" trademark signature is not located behind the bell as in all other examples that I've ever seen, but is ink stamped near the edge on the underside. Another thing I noticed is the presence of charcoal pits in a few places on the underside. Their presence rules out roto-casting as the manufacturing technique and indicates that this cymbal must have been roll-milled. This is not a UFIP creation either, because UFIP had not yet come into existence at that time.
