hey peeps.
my very first snare drum build is finally gathering some momentum.
it all started with me window shopping on ebay, and seeing a 13" tom shell, no hardware, wrap - no nothing, and saying to myself that a 13 x 10" wooden shell snare would be different.
so to keep my wallet from shouting at me too much, i've cannibilised an old snare of mine, for the lugs, (it's only an old pearl export), and what i'm doing is, instead of trying to find twelve lugs(6 top, 6 bottom) i'm filling in the original lug screw holes, and putting the pearl lugs, which are double ended, in the middle of the shell, and am gonna use longer tuning rods.
i've got a friend who spray paints motorbikes, and helmets, all custom stuff, who is gonna try out some new paint and techniques out on my shell for me, all for free! he's trying out a silver undercoat, with a lovely purple over it, which will show the silver through it in certain light.
hopefully it will come together nice. i'm keeping a photo diary of my venture, so when it's all, i'll post it up to show you all.
