My drum teacher, Jim Chapin

My first exposure to the drums, other than seeing Buddy Rich on TV was when my friend down the street got a brand new set of blue sparkle Ruether drums. He also got an instructional LP that taught the basics of rock drumming.  I borrowed that record and followed along to teach myself how to play. I have searched for years to find a copy, or even the name of the album. I came across it on youtube a while back and to my surprise, Jim Chapin was one of the two instructors on it. So, I guess I can say that the great Jim Chapin was my first drum teacher.

I was fortunate enough to have 2-3 lessons with Jim In the late 80's-early 90's. He had a retirement place in Sarasota, FL and would always take a few days a week at a music store to teach anyone who wanted a lesson. Sometimes he would go all day, only taking a break for lunch.

He was always out going, encouraging and highly motivated to improve everyone's abilities.
