Just picked this up and know little about it. I think it is from 1996 but little more. Is it an anniversary issue? Numbered plaque on side, how many were produced? What do the experts think?

Looks like you've got a 6.5" x 14" Ludwig "Super Classic" five-ply snare drum with a lovely African satinwood outer veneer.

This series was a "limited" run, which I would describe as more related to time then to a specific number of drums. Compare this to the 100th Anniversary engraved Black Beauties and the Alex Van Halen Signature Supraphonic Aluminum snare drum, which had a veryspecific number of finished units.

I attached a screen shot of a '96 Ludwig Catalog featuring the snare drum series.

Thanks Hoppy !

All the answers I was hoping for. Catalog pic really a plus.

I wonder if the tube lugs were special request.

The satinwood veneer is beautifully grained.

The tube lugs could have been added to the drum by a previous owner.

If I recall correctly Purdy had an old Supra a few years back with the chrome stripped off and tube lugs. It was pretty sweet.

I found the post:

Hey Rastus,

I think the tube lugs were an original option for two reasons. I have recently seen the same drum for sale also with the tubes and there are no impressions in the finish for the imperial (?) lugs. Interesting.

Hey Woody,

you are most likely correct that the drum was built with the Gladstone lugs. Ludwig offers them on other snare drums. It certainly does look classy that way. I expect it sounds awesome also. Enjoy!
