Thanks Salty! But, I do need to say that the drums do look better in the photos and at a distance, as I had many issues with the wrap and now know better. I'm getting close to finishing up the set, I just need a few more things.

What did you use to wrap them?

I went cheap and bought the self sticking glitter wrap from some outfit on Ebay, that doesn't seem to be selling there anymore. Since it was my first (and maybe last) project like this, and the drums were freebies, once I started, I tried my best to make it work. As I said in an earlier post, I've made almost every mistake in the book of restoring vintage drums. DOH

Don't lose heart. Experimenting on an MIJ kit is a good way to start off. Not much to loose. That particular wrap is very thin and extremely prone to migrating once you start tightening hardware down and tensioning lugs. Almost everyone here that has tried that product has had the same problem. No worries as you are certainly not alone.

Re-wrapping a drum kit seems like a a great idea, and it certainly can be, however, the cost of real Delmar wrap often makes the procedure unaffordable. There have been several threads here regarding "cheaper" methods to wrap drums which might apply to an MIJ kit.

One would be a hand applied glitter finish that Jonnistix and, I believe, RogerSling conceptualized. Very cost effective but messy method. The results have looked pretty great.

Another option is to paint the raw shells, however, to do that correctly requires a bit of knowhow. Jccabinets is the man for that.

You can veneer a raw shell which is cheaper than wrap and can look fantastic. Again jccabinets is an expert at this. Billnvick and some others here does this as well.

There have been posts regarding "Glitter Blast spray paint. I have tried that myself and was pretty underwhelmed with the results. It was mostly because after something like 12 coats of spray on clear I could still not get a smooth finish. Otherwise it looked pretty good.

People have used sparkle vinyl like what you would find in a 50's tuck and roll diner. The results have been pretty good with that.

There was someone on the site a few months ago posting about an automotive adhesive finish product that looked pretty great.

All of that to say, stick with it. There are plenty of other ways to accomplish things. Figure out what makes the most sense based on your comfortable skill sets and the amount of money you wish to tie up in a project.

Hey, for your first time at wrapping along with that paticular product I would say you did very good. Just look at the before and after pics! But like tnsqiunt pointed out, dont give up, try it again on another mij kit with different material and you will have different results. I will ppoint out that jamminsam.com has some very nice budet wrap that is priced somewhere between the best quality delmar wrap and the stuff you used.

Thanks guys, I do appreciate your words of support. I'm hoping to get this project done and move on. I'll be posting in the wanted/trade sections for the remaining parts I need soon. I'm also sitting on a couple of '60's Beverley gold/white round badge drums (BD & Tom)that need some major TLC. That will probably be a project for someone else as I really want to clean up my old 60's R-360 set first and at the rate I'm going it might be years before I could even get to the Beverleys.
