love what you did to the drums great job. im shure the rest will just as good keep up the good workCool1
OK, I'm not liking the vinyl wrap at all now. :( I painted the floor tom hoping that the wrap would work better but it was worse. Maybe, I haven't figured out the correct technique needed to get it on a drum. Now I'm thinking of buying a cheap set for the cousins(saw a number on CL today) and use this set as a beater for my kid so he stays off mine ;-) More pix later this week.
The only way to make this happen is to keep a supremely smooth surface. By the time you get there, you could have a good lacquered finish. Sorry, but bare wood+vinyl wrap=crap finish....
You can leave the paper backing on the wrap and install it like the tape method. Peel the backing back and cut 1 1/2 inches off the backing paper and smooth it back down to the wrap, stick that to the drum, peel 1 1/2" off the other end of the wrap and stick it overlapping the wrap 1 1/2". You can also brush glue to the bare shell where your going to start the wrap. the adhesive on the wrap will stick like (glue) to the glue. leaving the paper on will make the very thin pressure sensitive film look much smoother on the shell, other wise you would have to get the drum as smooth as a baby's hiney. dust will even show through.

Thanks Guys, I had already decided last week that the paper was staying on the wrap for the floor and bass (bought the contact cement). The "Frankenstein" snare has a thick black smooth wrap on it already and I'll try it with the self sticky and hope it will be fine.
Poppy, your drums turned out really cool. I'll post mine as soon I can get to them. And not that it's a big thing for me, but I would gladly trade the Tama snare lugs I have from that "Frankenstein" snare from anyone for some Pearl like snare lugs to match the rest of the set if they would fit the shell. Let me know. Thanks again.
I didnt glue mine solid to the shell. I stuck 1 1/2" to the shell, then pulled the wrap around and stuck 1 1/2" to the beginning of the wrap. LIke jammin sams tape method. go to his website and look at his drum wrap video. click here>>> http://www.jamminsam.com/drum_wrap_video.htm then watch the video
I'll check out the video, thanks! We, my wife Maggie (it's her sister's kids) and I, wrapped the snare last night and it worked very well on the black vinyl finish. I'll post pix when I get the lugs back on. That cheap wrap works OK for finished drums but I'm not sure you could sand any shell smooth enough to work....just saying.
Here are some pictures of the finished snare and with the XMas miracle of Salty's friend Tom having the 16" 7 hole rim I need to finish my floor Tom, I'll be posting shots of that one soon.
