MIJ Pearl cymbals from the 80s

Don't mean to derail the thread, but I just so happened to be looking at some Maxwin (by Pearl) MX-400 hats that are listed locally for cheap and stumbled across this thread just browsing the forum...

Any info on these? Can't seem to find a single thing Googling these. There's info on the Maxwin drums out there... but nothing on the cymbals? I'd just go play them and see if they're any good, but the guy's about an hour away and I don't want to waste my time if they're pieces of crap.

Get the guy to send u a real good picture of them showing the ink. compare to the Pearl cx500 and the CB 700 cymbals that are made in Japan. if it is the same font and look similar I recommend you snagging them up and taking a chance. watch my video on the CX 500 hats and take a good listen. I think they sound very good.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Those appear to have the same lathing as the lines i mentioned above. i would offer a bit less, but wpuld totally go for the snag. Be sure to report your findings here.

Looking at those again - not sure now---- I mean, they could be just like the old Pearl CX-300s as I think the 300s had the red ink also - perhaps this is a 'stencil' of the original Pearl CX-300s?

sometimes if you cant walk past something for the price and they have a half decent look like some old pearl cymbals its prob worth taking a punt, my experience is to consider the older 'stencil' platform of cymbals, steer away from more recent stuff like zildjian zbt, just because its at a junk sale and has zildjian stamped on it, been sucked in on this stuff in the past.

If I ever walk past those old Cx-XXX cymbals from the 80s with the red, green, (other?) ink I will definitely be stopping and likely buying. I am thoroughly impressed by the (green label) CX-500 hats and those crashes (and ride?) would likely sound great.

i bought an electric set a while back and the guy threw in all of his acoustic cymbals. one was a 22" pearl cx-500 ride. long story short the pearl sounded so good, i sold my sabian ride and my zildjian ride and have been playing the pearl for years now. good cymbals. i would definately get another if the oportunity presented itself.

From Drummerjohn333

Those are specifically the WILD series. My hats (and other CX-900s I have seen) were MIJ (ink stamped on the cymbal). It is intriguing as I believe that modern Pearl cymbals are indeed made in Canada (please confirm if you or anyone knows). Perhaps all of the Wild series were produced by Sabian? Common belief is that Paiste made them since they look so similar to the Rudes - but this appears to be proof that Sabian likely made them. Wonder if we could confirm this.I don't believe we are contradicting each other at all. Thank so much for the link! Awesome info - very insightful and intriguing!

I have some Pearl WILD 500 hi hats and they are labeled with "made in Japan" just like the cx300 and cx500 MIJ's I have. So I don't think Sabian or anybody else made them for Pearl. Also, all of the WILD cymbals I have found have the MIJ label on them. Hope this helps clarify this :)
