Ok, I had to ask one of the sound guys that work with me,because i had no clue...Bass shure 52's..on tom's,snare's 57's,over head 81 this is for live work,pretty much in same in studio but on bass drum two 57's in front of drum .Bass has head removed with a old sleepingbag over the open end with two 57's on floor under the sleepingbag about 2 feet in front of bass drum and about 6" off the ground...Mikey

I am gong to try a 57 on my bass.

I heard that Wilco recorded their Sky Blue Sky album entirely with SM-57's. Great sounding drums on that album too.

I recorded an album with a SM57 set-up that consisted of:

2 Overheads

2 Bass Drum

1 Snare

We played with the tones of the 2 BD mics to achieve a difference in sound. In addition we used a Sony VP88 Stereo Condenser for some ambient "room" sounds. Mic was placed outside of tracking room in the hallway. The album sounded very retro.
