Mic set up for singing?

Some people are able to split their brian and perform two different functions at the same time with agility while for other schmucks like me with bad brains we can only handle doing one activity at a time and still be able to do it well. I meant it, I envy you guys that find that stuff 'easy.' I just can't do it period. I can play you some drums though! :DJohn

I was laughing cause I have a long way to go! It was not easy for sure. As with you, a lot of respect here for those who make it look effortless!

I love to sing and drum, Im lucky to be able to do it. Problem is my voice stinks so I just sing back up on our songs. When our singer cant make practice I sing all the songs as lead singer and it sounds awful but it keeps the practice going. I sure enjoy it though.

I just use a regular boom stand, works for me. I keep it off to the left side a bit and have to turn my head to the left somewhat to use the mic. I can swing it out of the way when I dont need it. Once our bass player fixed up a goose neck thing that placed the mic directly in front of me, drove me nuts, felt like it was in my face, well it was in my face!

Here is a funny note,

My daughter always said I was better than DW. DW is a cartoon character from the cartoon Arthur. She could not play drums and sing at the same time. So gee, I felt great knowing I have more talent than a cartoon character.

Can't recall ever NOT having a vocal mike set up as part of my kit... I did at one time use a Gooseneck set up but found that I was always fiddling with the adjustment, (the things do bounce around a bit).

For a long time now I have just used a solid boom stand (like Tinman), except it comes in from over my hi hats. No problems with pivoting it away for songs when I'm not in on the back up or (some) lead vocals..

Mind you I have limb independence, but I just can't sing and play at the same time. What I'm saying with my mouth trips up my drumming. Respect. I envy you guys that can do that.John

For me, not using the gooseneck falls into my rules for taking stuff: "One less piece. One less pound."
