Meinl Meteors?

Loading...

Anyone know anything about Meinl Meteors? I have an old set of 13" hihats, very thin and high pitched. Sound kind of good but different, stamped Meinl Meteor. When would these have been made? Are they cast or sheet?

I can take pix if anyone wants to see them.

Cassidy :p

EDIT: I just looked at the stamp again... it actually says "Metior" with an "I".

Here's some pictures... the stamp is very light, KUMEN - MEINL - METIOR with TRADE MARK on each side. On the oppositte side it's stamped MADE IN GERMANY but it's too small, I couldn't find it on the pics even when I zoomed. They're very light/thin, 13", very musical.

Any info is good!

That Meinl stamp is circa the '70's. I believe Meteors were NS12 alloy (oftentimes called nickelsilver or nickelbronze)...the same stuff Paiste Ludwig Standards were made out of.

Stamped from sheets and machine-made.

Not worth much, market-value wise...maybe $40-50. But I do agree, I always liked thin NS12's for hi-hats....very sizzly.....
