From basket case to something desirable, this rehab was truly an amazing process and I cannot express enough thanks to the guys here who helped me. I shudder when I think of what this rehab might’ve looked like had I not found the great guys on this forum. It seems this poor old neglected set needed just about every piece of advice offered on the restoring drums thread. Having given attention to every inch of wood, inside and outside of the shell, every chrome, every rim and every nut and bolt-I’m cautiously boastful to say I could take on anything after this project! The help here didn’t end after the rehab. I learned packing techniques and best way to advertise and then even how to ship this massive set.
I sold the set on eBay for $1200. The buyer was so impressed with the set, he did not haggle a cent and sent more than needed for shipping costs. I bought the disastrous set for $400. After some math, figuring in some investment in some parts and hardware, I cleared $600. Not too bad and the profit will be a gift to my daughter who marries on New Year’s Day. Awesome!
Simply said, a successful project from start to finish and the credit goes to the help given here.
My sincerest thanks to all of you. You are all marvelous and I wish I could somehow meet you guys in person and talk drums.
Best wishes for the holiday season and I’ll be back after the New Year pleading for more advice as my next project has already arrived. An early 70’s Gretsch set---which arrived in pieces…..pray for me. Dean
