Marching Head on Regular Snare Drum?

Loading...

Hey, guys,

I'm just experimenting. Has anyone tried a Remo Black Max batter head on a regular rock'n'roll snare drum (Ludwig late 70's Supra)? I have read a few reviews and a lot of drummers like it. What do you guys think? Most of the stuff I do is simple rock, but there are a few tunes that require brushes. Jazz? Ghost notes? Shuffles? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks!

You might be on to something. I put an Aquarian Studio-X on one of my Supras and really liked it. I have them on all my Ludwig snares now, and a couple others.

They are great alternative to covering the drum with gaffer's tape.

At one point I thought they were discontinued because I couldn't find them on the Aquarian site. Turns out they are not marketed as snare heads, you have to look under tom heads.

Mapex 6.5" Brass snare
I know there's more snares than that.

I've got a couple of 60's Ludwig parade batter heads that I use on snares and floor toms. Sounds nice.

Thanks for the input guys. I haven't given up the idea, but I'm trying to find a good marching batter head for under a hundred bucks! That's too steep for someone who isn't even playing now. I love my old drums but...
