apologies not necessary! this convo is what i'm all about! questions, answers, chit chat, perspectives, opinions, and experiences. i have been lurking on your KOA build. it looks amazing! and i agree with the others, its YOUR drum. nothing wrong with what you are doing.

thanks for all that info Tommyp. i think i will take the plunge and do a high gloss heavy lacquer interior. i was afraid of going through all the hard work of lacquering the drum and not having any affect on the sound of the end result. if it makes a noticeable difference, i am all for it. i am looking for a unique sound, and i think the BBB bearing edge, combined with the double 45 snare, combined with the reflective lacquer shell, will give my DANOSONIC a very complex sonic character. FAT/BRIGHT/RESPONSIVE...

man i love this forum. CANT WAIT TO HEAR THIS BABY SING!

pics will be along as soon as the drum is in. Craig has told me that the shell will be done around the end of April. ill try to see if i can get a hold of a nice condenser mic and get a decent recording of her as well.

Craig Winston is a MASTER!! my shell came out beautiful and he was an absolute pleasure to deal with. i highly recommend him for any drum work you might possibly need. here are some photos.

this drum sounds unbelievably good. couldn't find anyone to make me a badge, so i added a few historical inaccuracies, so as not to throw off the layman, but the real drum head would easily recognize. like: deliberately changing the throw off block from the "D" stamp to non, gold colored brads on script badge, position of the script badge, brass grommet on the badge, and black button head/allen type lug screws(not shown).

this is quite possibly the best sounding snare i have ever heard in my life. the hybrid bearing edges make it crisp and responsive yet thick and tonal. the extra coats of shellac make it bright and LOUD!! The shell construction and material used by Mr. Winston are superb (including the inverse 45 degree edge on the re-rings, thanks to Craig's attention to detail.) i dont think i have to explain to this crowd, how incredibly well all of these factors make sweet sweet love to the Dynasonic snare system. imagination is abundant here.

Fat Cat Dynasonic snare wires- AWESOME! not quite as dry as the Puresounds, but i like that, so they are a win in my book.

i am trying to set up an acoustically "neutral" space, and a really good quality mic to get the best possible sound recording of this snare. as soon as i can, i will post it. thank you all for the encouraging words and inspiration.
