Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany tone differnce compared Last viewed: 6 hours ago

I own a vintage Ludwig Super Classic Ringo-esce kit. The only difference is that my shells are Mahogany/Poplar/Maple. Ring' used a Mahogany/Poplar/Mahogany kit. Is there a significant tone difference between those 2 different 3 ply shell compositions? How close to Ringo's tone can I get without having to buy a kit exactly like his?

Reason I ask is that I am entering a competition to re-record some Beatles songs. I'm an audio engineer, with a background in keys & guitars mainly. I dont know the small details about drums as well as you fellas here on the forum.. Thanks again for any help.

In my experience, I have found the drums with mahogany interioirs to be a bit "warmer", with a less focused attack.

You will be close enough. Mind the towels, though.

I think head selection, mic selection and placement, the room, signal chain, the player, and yes, the tea towels, will be far more noticeable than that slight difference in shell wood.

Who are this band, the Beatles, anyway? I feel like I've heard of them somewhere...
