Just got this from the Chicago Drum Show from Wood & Weather Drum Shop (http://woodandweatherdrumshop.com/).
1912 (there about) Lyon & Healy snare. 15"x4", 20 lugs. Seems to be all original hardware, except for a few tension rods. They are at least from around the same time. The original bakelite vent is hidden behind the strainer. There is no badge or label. The only mark of any kind is the number 4 on the inside of the shell, indicating shell depth.

I live in Chicago, so it is nice to bring this drum back to its place of origin. It is missing one small piece of hardware from the top rim. Perhaps a ring of some kind. The only flaw is a crack in the bottom hoop that extends about 8 inches. It has been repaired and doesn't seem to be an issue. But seeing as the drum is over 100 years old, I will only play it sparingly. It would be a shame to put it in a case and never play it.
Researching this snare has been interesting. I knew the hardware was Duplex, as they supplied hardware to many smaller companies. I wasn't sure of the maker until I ran across this image:

As you can see, someone has installed a contemporary strainer, and you can see a glimpse of the ring that my snare is missing. The website has this to say about the snare:
"Lyon & Healy Snare Drum . Donated by Gordon Peters – A 4-inch by 15-inch wood-shell drum, dated August 6, 1912, on an internal label. Although the label identifies the drum as Lyon & Healy, the design is that used by the Duplex Mfg. Co. for drums provided to various musical merchants in the early part of the 20th century. 20 lugs with rods join to metal inserts in the wood counterhoops to provide separate tension for the heads. This drum has been modified with a new strainer and a set of Hinger snares."
If the finish on the Gordon Peters snare is original, then there is a chance the finish on mine has been altered. I only say this because there are areas where the finish is uneven, and it is a bit lighter that the Peters snare.
If anyone else has this snare in their collection, please help me fill in a couple of blanks. I'm looking for a clear example of the original paper label from inside: dimensions, text detail, where it was applied. I'm also looking for clear pictures of the ring from the top hoop. Thanks!
