What do you guys think of this finish? I can pick up this 6ply 12, 13, 16, 22 with double tom arm for $425.

I like them. Super durable finish as well. That's a good price as you well know.

I bought a late 70s orphan 6-ply Ludwig tom with the same rims- one rim with rounded ears and one rim with flat ears. Everything appeared original- even the heads.

But who knows with Ludwig. Consistently inconsistent.

Well we know from KO's post in your COB snare thread that Ludwig may have used rims with the rounded ears at some point. Can't imagine them using different rims on one kit tho...Not trying to be argumentative here you understand. For some reason these days my eyes go straight to the rims. So many mismatched and non-original rims on these Ludwigs I see pictured. Hmmm...Mitch

I don't concern myself with originality of tom hoops. As long as the hoops look nice and are functional, I'm good. I'm more concerned with how clean the kit is and extra holes.

I'm i like jr, I don't get too excited over things, like hoops and tesion rods being original. It's nice if they are but not a must have.

I'm not a big fan of the cortex wraps either, they look too fake. But as much Mike pointed out they are very durable.

Thank you!

looks like you got a sweet deal. I'm not a huge fan of the cortex finishes (although I like Walnut the best of the cortex faux wood options) but if those had been local to me at that price I probably would have jumped on them too. Those finishes are tough so they make good gigging drums.

I'm not overly concerned with hoops and T rods either. If they're original that's great but if not no biggie as long as they look okay.

This is not my favorite finish either, but it's starting to grow on me. I really bought them because they are clean and original, plus the price was right and leaves me some room to make a profit if I decide to sell them.
