Hey everyone

Do you guys know of a good strainer (other than the P86) that will fit a Ludwig Supra without any drilling?

jeebee - excuse me, I know it doesn't answer your question, but... when I read the title of your thread, I was going to recommend a P-86! Why did you exclude it? It's not only solid and functional, it's cooler looking than Elvis's pink Caddy. Why don't you like it? It's a real good replacement unit for any Supra. I added one to my hammered bronze Supra. Love it, works great.

Because out here in Belgium a P86 strainer costs 70 euro. That I find to mutch for a strainer.

jeebee - They have them at ebay new for $44 US funds. Even with shipping added it'll be much less than 70 euros. Just a thought. I'll be interested in the responses you get, I'd like to know which 3rd party strainers are a dead fit for supras myself. Check out the P-86's on ebay!

Ok, I will try the P86.

The problem I have with the P85 is that the snare tension loosens when I play it for 5 minutes. I'm kind of a snare drum freak, especially with my solo's! So that's a problem.

I use a Ludwig x thin on the snare side, I don't think I'm a heavy hitter and I tension my snare wires just enough to get "loose-tight" sensitivety (the snare drum still has to 'breath').

Does the P86 loose his tension when played for 5-10 minutes

(non stop soloing)?

What with the import charges? Above 24 euros it's 38% import charges here in Belgium (f**king EU).

Are you absolutely sure it's the strainer & not the butt that's loosening or slipping? I've had problems with the P-32 for many years, specially if it's an old one, it's easy to strip the screw heads so that you can't get enough tension on the strings/strap.

I recently installed a P-86 & while I haven't played it much, it seems to be a lot more solid than the P-85.

I haven't had -any- problems with mine. Freddie makes a good point! Check the butt side because it could be the problem and not the strainer. If it's the strainer, you'll be happy with the P-86 replacement. Set it and forget it, reliable unit.

Ok, I've found an even more solid strainer that also was standard on the Ludwig "The Chief" Titanium snare drum.

So I seppose that it wil fit my supra???

It costs more than the p86 stariner but I think it's more sturdy and everything works with a drumkey (not with a screwdriver like the p86 and p85)

Wat do you guys think?
