Ludwig Speed king I.D.? Last viewed: 5 hours ago

I need some help identifying what year roughly my Speed King pedal is.

I thought it was early - mid 60's but that was only a guess because it was included in a box of hardware that came with a 58 Gretsch kit. The kit was bought new in 61 by the former owner. Can't ask him - he died a few years ago.

I was recently told it was 1955 or before - that surprised me.

It's a WFL as you can see.

It is the nicest pedal I've owned. I have double & single 9611 Gibraltar pedals and I like them...but they're no contest (for me) next to this old SK.

I was going to send it away to have it rebuilt/renovated but have decided against it - for now anyway. I say why fix it if it ain't broke.

Gary. the speed king version like yours came out in 1950 to the early 60's, and there were very small changes in the casting up until the foot board had ludwig on it instead of wfl!! so an exact date, i can't give you not by the pics I would have to see it in person!!

Your drummers not much good is he!? What you need is someone that's as good as me. ! John Henry Bonham !!

Okay - thanks for that.....comon over!

No - seriously.

I can take a 'whack' of very detailed photos - macro shots too - and post some here or if you'd rather - you could email me and I'll send you the pix via email. If that would help I could do that no problem.

I also have the exact same footboard on my Ludwig hi-hat stand (attached photo) - they both came with the Gretsch drums. Like I said - the drums were bought new in 1961 (58 Gretsch drums) so maybe the owner bought the pedal & hatstand new at that time - who knows. But it fits with the dates you quoted.

The hatstand was made by Walberg&Auge for Ludwig. It's a great little light-weight stand & I'm also using it with the 58 Gretsch - love the pedal & hatstand........simple & functional.

I also like my Pearl H-2000 hat stand - it's got miles of adjustment and is a beauty, but WAY heavy.
