Ludwig Shells?

Loading...

All,

Hoping someone will be able to assist in identifying these no badged/stamps 3ply reinforced shells. Needing hardware I found a kit on CL listed as Ludwig but owner wasn’t sure..they could only assume it was Ludwig by the floor tom brackets labeled as such. Got it home and started pulling hardware and the cheap wrap (like a tin foil wrap) just pulled away from the drums..a little glue at the seams. All the original holes were covered by the wrap revealing a hardware pattern similar to older Ludwig shells I’ve viewed in this forum and the web. Sizes are 22x14, 13x9, 16x16. The 13” has the letter A penciled in the interior. I attached a photo of one of mounts that came with the kit for reference. Any help would really be appreciated.

They look like Ludwig shells to me.

That’s good to read coming from a guru and I appreciate you replying K.O. I agree..The kits I see out there matching the hardware holes seem to be from mid 70’s super classics line. That and the spurs that came with the kit look to be from that time period.

The hole spacing, number of lugs, shape of footprint, location of holes, damper drilling all can be used. From what I see, they can be cleared without wrap too.

OddBall, all great points you make on identifying these shells. Didn’t even think about clearing them, great idea! Very surprised after getting them home and pulling the wrap..really wasn’t expecting much on first appearance as I was concentrated on the hardware off this kit for another build..early 80’s modular B/O-red cortex. Now I’m thinking the opposite. Figured I get some real input from you guru’s which has been real helpful.

burgundy, good eye. I’ve read that I was common back in the day to drill for a more center mounted rail position. It’s nice to have this option with the bass shell. But damn..those rail consolette’s are expensive! Upwards of $100.
