Ludwig Reintroduces Mod Orange

Loading...

Yesterday Ludwig announced they will be making mod orange an available wrap on all USA series drums.

I think it's really cool they want to bring this back, but I don't think they got it right at all. The colors are very close but the pattern is way off. Most of the response I've seen has been positive, though. Below is the new kit and photos of one of Bun E. Carlos' pristine mod orange toms, which Ludwig studied to come up with the reissue.

The old wrap looks like the surface of Jupiter, or a really killer lava lamp. The new stuff looks like a screensaver from the '90s, but I guess they determined that's what people want.

Still a better announcement than Pearl's little digital xylophone. Man, Pearl is so lame.

I actually prefer the new version! Looks more like an exotic wood than a random psychedelic pattern from the 60's. Eye of the beholder I guess.

Is Ludwig expecting a resurgence of Doors cover bands?

Too many great drums to list here!

In a way, it`s good that the new and old versions of the wrap are different...I think it may deter anyone that tries to pawn off a rewrap drum for an original...As we know, the original mod orange in decent shape will command a lot of money...It may help keep the not so honest people at bay if you know what I mean!!

I don`t mind the new version either!!

Cheers

Yea I know, eye of the beholder and all...

But I just don't get the appeal of this color scheme and the decision to bring it back...

Heck, I don't recall that it was all that popular when it first came out???

Hoppy - Ludwig had to eat a lot of those back then (they ended up covering them in black just to sell them,) and I have a feeling they're about to eat another bunch of them. Isn't the definition of insanity to repeat the same action over and over expecting a different result each time? Like I said earlier... unless Ludwig is expecting a resurgence of Doors cover bands they're going to eat a lot of these new kits too.

Start collecting them now! Just like Oyster Pink Pearl (looked like drums wrapped in bacon) and Green Sparkle, we didn't want them when offered in the 60's. Rare and surprisingly valuable now.

Does anyone know if they are available in two up?

Many Thanks.

I like that it's different to keep it separate from the true vintage pattern.

And I'm sure you can get two up if you wanted- most likely it would be a custom order from your local dealer anyway.
