Ludwig Piccolo Maple rebuild

Loading...

Just finished a Piccolo snare rehab.

History

Bought a 3 x 13 Ludwig maple shell with Original badge and muffler. The shell was in great condition.

I wanted to refinish the drum in brass and green like the Ludwig Venus snare.

All hardware is brass.

Tube lugs and tension rods from Drum Gear Online

Hoops: from Ebay

Air vent: Drum Factory Direct

Tube gaskets: Drum Factory Direct

Snare wires: Drum Factory Direct

Strainer, butt plate:Drum Factory Direct

Remo Ambassador Snare head: Ebay

Remo Skytone Batter head

Stain

Miniwax Emerald Green and Miniwax Clear Gloss Polyurethane.

Sanded original finish with 220 and 400.

Had to widen the lug holes slightly for the tube lugs.

Here are some before and after photos and the Ludwig Venus snare

Great job! I love it. How does it sound? How much do you have invested in it?

The end result has that Carl Palmer piccolo look. I really like it, a lot. Came out stunning, and if you didn't know that it was natural, you'd never guess. What did you use to stain the wood?

Sounds great. Crisp and tight!

I've spent close to about the same amount of a Ludwig Venus snare.
