Ludwig P-85 Cover Replacement?

Loading...

Hi, is it possible to replace the cover on a P-85? I see just the covers listed in auctions all the time. I ask because I have a mint vintage 6.5 X 14 Suprophonic that is all original including the P-85 which works fine, except that you cannot use ribbon... only cord to attach the snare wires to it. They keep breaking and I want to use plastic ribbon instead of cord. I see that later P-85s used a clamp instead of string hols that will allow this but I don't want to replace the whole (original) P-85 if possible. So I am trying to find out if you can just replace the original cover with string hols for another cover having the clamp instead that wold allow the use of ribbon to attach snare wires?

Thanks!

Yes. The covers are interchangeable.

Thanks for the reply. Is it easy to do? Do they just slip off or do yo need to disassemble?

Yeah, it's easy. Just unscrew the knob and the face slides off.

I've used a black face on a newer P85 with no issues.

Thanks again! That's exactly what I'm looking for. Now that I'm looking for one, I suddenly don't see any black face covers with screw clamps. Wouldn't you know it :-/
