Ludwig lugs on Mahogany stave tom
Looks good. Nice job!
Beautiful drum! Tell us more, did you apply some veneer?
Thank you!

Opps, I did not read the title very good. It is a stave drum, correct? Made from several solid peices of wood that are beveled on the edges and glued into a circle, then turned on a lathe.
Thank you!

Thanks a lot guys, I really haven't shown them to many people, never on the internet. I'm just using a modified cheap snare stand, because I don't have any mounts. Hardware is becoming an issue. I've got stacks of these stave shells with no hardware. The cost of hardware outweighs the price of the wood by large amount.
I believe any one with tools, patience, and basic woodworking skills can do this. The first one I made was the ugliest drum I had ever saw, but a year later, I get good consistent results. The drum pictured was my sixth drum, quartered African mahogany, about $25 in material, and shellac finish. I'm on my 22nd shell now. Not as good as the pros, but good enough for the girls I go with.
