Ludwig Guys' Help, Part Deux

Loading...

Hello again, guys, especially K.O. Today I purchased a very old Ludwig L-arm and rim mount. The seller believes it to be from the 20's or 30's. I zoomed in on one of the pictures and part of the mount was stamped "Pat. No 1,924,784." Below these numbers, the Ludwig signature was visible. Could this number possibly be the date it was manufactured, 1924? This is getting way beyond my knowledge but, some of you Ludwig enthusiasts are truly amazing! Just very curious. Thanks very much!

There is a searchable database at the USTPO (USTPO.GOV) and given the patent number you can look it up to see the details.

Issue Date: August 29, 1933

An item bearing that patent number will have been made after August 1933 (presuming everybody always follows the law perfectly).

Here is the patent detail including the drawing as a PDF:

The first four digits in the patent numbering system do not correspond to the year that the patent issued. That patent was issued in 1933.

zenstat caught his train, researched US patents online and revised his post in the time it took me to sit at my desk and look up the information. zenstat, we are lucky to have you here on the forum. :)

Aw shucks. I was just dropping my wife off at the local train station a few blocks away so she could go downtown to see her Optometrist. The USTPO site isn't bad if you know the patent number, but there are few things I've wanted to look for in the older databases where I have to use the category system (whatever they call it) and I've never been able to come to grips with it. Some day I might figure it out... Yes Sir
