Hello vintage Ludwig fans
Here are some pics of my ongoing club date project
I was bored and surfing the bay and impulsively I bid on this keystone badge red sparkle partial with nickel hardware
The seller advertised it as 20"12" 13" no snare, no floor,
The drums arrived and were actually 20" bass with two 12" toms
no resonant side hoops or hardware on any of the three
what was worse was one 12" drum had nickel like the bass
But the other had chrome hardware. I was thinking to sell the second tom to finance some of the nickel stuff but just set it aside
I messaged "three on the floor" Chris
for help finding parts and he suggested I sell off the nickel
and re-fit the whole kit in chrome
only trouble was
I liked the antique look the nickel hardware gave too much
to take his very sound advice
He warned me I would be upside down finding everything needed in Nickel
Well he sure was right about that not only am I upside down
I think my pockets are inside out $$ already
and the pics will show my limited progress so far
The 1 reversible mod I mention in the thread title
is the very top section of the rail assembly was missing the "L" rod bracket, and fasteners
I wanted to hang the one 12"drum so as a temporary measure
I used some mij parts
On many 70s Pearl made stencil kits they use a rail assembly that is a complete clone of the 60's Ludwig but for having a U shaped rather L shaped rod
This was to accommodate double toms which by then were more common.
I simply unbolted it from the pearl bass drum and installed it on the club date they fit together perfectly
after hanging the one tom as would be original
that second upright spike looked funny with nothing to do I thought maybe a cowbell??
Then the ole' light bulb went on and I remembered the other 12"drum
I have since bought all the hardware needed to convert the second drum to nickel
None of it has arrived yet save for the cymbal arm (pictured)
as can be seen I found a floor tom that needs re-covering and a total nickel switch
I also found a pioneer snare with nickel save for the chrome p-83 and butt end.
Chris I should have listened buddy
Stay away from nickel boys and girls hehe groooan !!
