Ludwig Club Date Kit w/ 14" FT

Loading...

So far my quest to put together a kit for my rockabilly gig has been unsuccessful. My first inclination was to find some Radio King orphans. Next was a Slingy duco kit with a 14" FT. Guess I am still being too picky.

Since I am pretty hell-bent on playing a 14" FT, it dawned on me that many of the Ludwig Club Date kits came with a 14" FT. These drums also weigh a helluva lot less than most early Radio Kings and Slingys. And to top it off, I have seen nice examples that have sold recently for well under $1K (with exceptions depending on whether snare is included and overall shape of the kit).

So, anyone have (or know of) a set of late-50's / 60's Club Dates for sale? I'd prefer 22", 14", and 12" sizes, but the only real must-have is a 14" FT. A matching snare would be great, but probably not required, since I'd like to find (or refinish) a 6.5" or 7" deep snare to go with the Club Dates.

Since this is a vintage drum forum, I doubt there would be much interest, but I do have a set of Phattie drums in bebop sizes (18", 14", and 12"), including a matching snare for possible trade-bait. The kit is super sweet, but the silver glass glitter with inlaid blue glass glitter LeMans stripes has a look more suited for straight-up rock/surf/instro than rockabilly. Just throwin' this out there!

Kevin, got your message and looking forward to checking out the pics and details.

Nevin, I didn't receive your PM. I double-checked and my inbox actually has room. Maybe resend when you get a chance? Thanks!

If you haven't already, check to see if you can locate a Gretsch Renown 57 bop kit. There may be a couple left. 14" floor tom but also 18" bass, though.

Got mine new for a steal. I love them. Apparently Gretsch made 125 in each blue, red and black. They're out of production and getting more difficult to find. Good luck.
