Ludwig by Paiste

Loading...

The first cymbals I had were Ludwig Standard by Paiste. I thought the hats were ok but the ride and crash just weren't good.

Today I got some Ludwig by Paistes (11"hats, 12 crash) that are thin and sound great. The Paiste logo has 3 stars above it.

What's the scoop experts?

WOW - Thanks Mike! While I suppose all this info is found on Paiste-Wiki it sure is convenient to have it all in this form!

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I just got some ludwig standard paiste 14" hihats that have exactly the the sound I have been looking for. they weigh in at 587g and 698g and are really corroded. I washed them up alittle but they seem to have rust spots and a bluish dusty look over some of the top. What would be best to do - just leave em or try to shine them up a bit? what would i use? thanks for any help.

I used to love shiny cymbals and would use brasso and Cameo cleaner to keep them clean. Now, I leave them alone (unless there is some glaring issue). I like them with their natural patina - I guess its the sense of history that travels along with them that I like.

To each his own I guess.

And btw - I love those Ludwig by Paiste cymbals. I have a 14" hi hat that I use a crash. It's great!

Yes i usually leave my cymbals and let them age but these were in worse shape than I have ever seen ... like they were stored under water for the last 15 years. So I thought they might even sound better if I got some of the crud off. I have never seen a cymbal develop what appears to be little bits of rust in the surface. And also I read that these standards are suppose to be german silver and so won't turn bluish on the surface when exposed to dampness but these sure seem to have gotten light whitish blue in places. very strange.

I have a pair of 15" Ludwig Pasite hi hats. They have the 3 star logo. I've had them well over 20 years. My oldest son used them for a while and cracked the top cymbal. He drilled the end of the crack but missed and it went a bit further. They sat for years in the cymbal bag till I started to play again a few years ago. I did some surgery on the top crack. Has not spread in the almost 3 years I've been using them again. You'd think they'd would be horrible sounding and it's sure fugly to look at. But these still have a really sweet sound. Amazing!! I've got a 14" crash that's LBP and I love it too. I'm always trying to find the best hats, best ride, but it's the one that always stays, and gets along with everybody.
