Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl

Loading...

My friend has this b/o badge Ludwig black oyster pearl kit. I may buy it, but there's something odd about the tom mount placement on the kick. It's not centered, it's much closer to the batter side and there is not an extra hole. Maybe it added later, did Ludwig offer a virgin bass drum? Thanks.

The '71 catalog has a Rock Duo kit. It is shown with dual virgin 14"x20" bass drums. So there's a possibility.

You would have to look at the grommet locations inside the shells to see if they have been tampered with...

This kit has emerged once again, I had been thinking about buying it several months ago. I instead bought a red sparkle Club Date. Now I'm debating whether to trade a Ludwig green sparkle Classic Maple 12, 14, 20. I have the matching snare, but I'd be keeping it unless the owner was to throw in an equally nice snare. The 12, 13, 20 are 3ply, the 16 is 6ply along with the odd tom mount placement. It may still be worth doing the trade, but I'd like some opinions from you Ludwig guys.

IMHO I would keep the Green sparkle kit. They are hard to come by and the B-pearl are more abundant

I think everyone should have at least one Club Date in their collection. I would say the same about black oyster pearl, but only if you play in a Beatles cover band or play alot of their music. The cash outlay for a BOP is prohibitive. But red sparkle club dates are sweet.

Maybe I wasn't clear, the Ludwig Classic Maple green sparkle kit I'd be trading is a newer one. I believe it was made around 2010.

I've never been a big fan of the later version of the oyster black pearl we often called the bowling ball pearl. I'd tend to keep even a 2010 Ludwig Classic Maple kit.

It's not actually an even trade, he'd be giving me his 4pc kit plus $150 for my 4pc kit.

What do you think you green kit is worth? A new one in 22, 13, 16 configuration retails for about $1799.
