Howdy. Couple of Q's about the cortex wrap.
1. When new, was the wrap a deep gloss or semi-gloss?
2. What is the best method for removing scratches?
Thanks - More to come I'm sure ;)

Black cortex would have been a deep gloss......best method for scratch removal and polish is the Novus system......cleaner, scratch remover and polish. You can usually find it at better auto parts stores and some motorcycle shops (great for helmets and helmet visors).

LUDWIG-DUDE:
I shifted over to this area of the forum to research methods of restoring a Ludwig Black Cortex kit and must say that I'm not surprised at all to see that you've already provided some expert advice regarding this subject matter!
The early 70s kit that I'll be picking up today has definitely been used as a "player's" kit, not stored away somewhere in bags or cases. It's extremely sound functionally with all original components, no modifications and no extra holes on any of the shells. However, the black cortex wrap does have its share of scrapes, scratches and scuffs.
I noticed that you recommended the Novus polishing system to help restore the wrap. I currently have a bottle of the Novus 2 in-house, which I've used on some of my other kits with excellent results. However, I've never used the Novus 1 or Novus 3 polishes. For my current project would it be wise for me to use all three and, if so, in which order? My guess (and I don't want to be "guessing") is Novus 3, then Novus 2, then Novus 1. OR.........do you think Novus 2 by itself might be all that I'd need?
THANKS in advance (again!) for your time and your help!
I have used the Novus three and it seems that it is not any better than the #2. It was more work getting the shine back after the #3. Just my experience, and that was on WMP.
