Is it gunmetal or are you sure it`s paint ? It don`t look like paint.

well, it doesn't look like paint, its almost like some kind of coating, but its not flaking like paint would. I am not sure what it is.
Those are the original brass hoops that have been painted, or powder coated along the way. It's a shame somebody used an abrasive on that beautiful shell. With some elbow grease, a lot of the hazy scratches (from some A-hole using steel wool no doubt,) and the shell will shine. I'd leave the hoops as they are and play her as she sits. Nice, raunchy, open sounding snare drums. Killer for brushes and guys who use a lot of buzz rolls. It sings in medium tuning. Looks like a six-lug Universal to me. Where's Mikey Layton? He'd have a good idea.

Either way, I doubt it's original. The nickel on the rims was the first to go, very thin.

It don`t look like powder coating to me. It can`t be a universal if it`s Brass. I think it`s a orchestra all metal like the cat pic I put up.
If he gets closer to the hoops in outdoor lighting, we`ll nail that coating.

It looks like someone put a foil sticker in the shape of the engraving and then did the coating, or bluing, or tried to give it that black chrome look.

It does look like the inside is the original gunmetal finish.
