Ludwig & Ludwig floor tom sizes in the 40s?

Loading...

Hi,

I have searched the web a while now, but cannot find any references to what floor tom sizes L&L did in the 40’s. Do anyone here know if they did 18", or was 16" the largest?

Hi again,

For those interested: Today, I stumbled upon a page from the 1948 catalogue, and found that they only did two floor tom variations. The standard was (length x width) 16 x 16", and optional choice 14 x 16".

Interesting size offering with the 14x16"

I thought that size was more in tune with some of the more modern drums.

Cool to know!

yes, it seems players were requesting smaller sizes at that point. I have a '48 kit with a 24" kick, which was the optional size. 26" was the standard.

From the catalogue page:

"Some dance drummers prefer a smaller snare drum, bass drum and floor tom-tom. You may select one of the following items as alternatives to the corresponding items listed above:

No. 101 - 14" x 24" Super Bass Drum, instead of No. 103, 14" x 26".

No. 38 - 5.5" x 14" Standard Snare Drum, instead of No. 35, 6.5" x 14".

No. 1040 - 14" x 16" Tom-tom, instead of No. 1045, 16" x 16"."

If anyone has either of the floor tom variations available in WMP, I am in the market for one :)
