Ludwig 75th anniversary (84) kit. Looking to sell

Loading...

Hello,

Trying to find out what a fair value for this kit would be.

Looked for previous sold on Ebay but not much there.

Want to sell but don't know what would be fair.

How much would you pay for this kit?

Like to sell to someone here but would have to be a local pickup or in vicinity because of size.

Virgin Bass and close serial numbers.

Last of the Chicago plant. 6-ply Maple shells.

The catalog picture shown is exact kit and has the sizes listed.

It is around a modest 7-8 out of ten, mainly because of Bass drum hoops.

I do have the snare (super sensitive) 6.5 x 14 but not sure if I should sell or keep, it is near mint. Let me know what you guys think.

Price with snare and without would be helpful in making a choice to either sell the snare or not.

Thanks

Wayne

Not an actual 75th Ann set, those had inlaid eagles....My value guesstimate is around a grand tops.

The finish is gorgeous and I know they sound great. They're hard to price because of the power tom sizes and the modular hardware.

I doubt these would be worth a premium over a B/O badged set made the year before, or a Monroe badged kit made a year later. They are among the last of the Chicago made drums but it appears that Ludwig made a LOT of drums that year and I have never noticed that there is a particular interest or demand in these drums simply due to that fact. I have several drums from that year and did not have to pay anything extra because they had the "Chicago Large Keystone". Someone might be willing to shell out a bit more due to the Chicago connection but I don't think the market is clamoring for these drums either. The exception would be some of the rarities from that year that were tied to the anniversary like the sets Bun mentioned and there was also a limited edition snare drum with a special placard on the side.

Nice drums and they look to be in beautiful shape (although the sizes are currently out of fashion as is the modular style heavy hardware). My point is only that the 75th anniversary angle doesn't really apply here, at least not to any great extent as far as added value.

Let me know of you'd be willing to sell the snare individually.

Thanks guys,

K.O. you are right probably doesn't add to the value. I was using the anniversary more as a description and time period of the set. They do sound great and I know people are turned off by the power toms. I really think I am going to keep the snare because it is hard to find one in that condition.

Power toms and Modular hardware may be out of fashion at the moment, as well as Pinstripes and dot heads, but they will be in demand again someday, much like people are rediscovering concert toms and hydraulic heads again.......you may not get top dollar today, but you will eventually to the right buyer. All trends start somewhere, and once people see that trend that the power sizes and Modular hardware are in demand again (aka nostalgia), they will jump on that bandwagon.

Well just so we have future questions answered someone just bought the drum for $900.

So I guess you can say it is worth what the buyer wants to pay for it.

0127frey please start a thread about that Eagle kit because I know we would get alot of interest in it since a lot of guys thought I was actually talking about it in this thread.

Thanks for everyone’s input. BEC was close as usual.
