Well, Ludwig didn't switch from 3-ply to 6-ply until 1977, so if you have a 1969 badge number, your drum should be 3 ply. But the only sure-fire way to know is to take off a head and count the plies.

Ludwig didn't make very many maple - poplar - maple shells. Most of them by that point were mahogany outer, poplar middle and maple inner. Look at the edge with a magnifying glass and some good light. You will most likely find that the outer ply is dark brown.

Suit yourself but you are incorrect as is the shell guide. I guess the pointy B/O badge '70 or so clear maple interior 16"floor tom, '67, 13" white painted maple interior tom and '68, clear maple interior 20" bass drum that I currently have are all just figments. Maple Poplar Maple are very rare. I'm not saying you couldn't have one but the vast majority, like 98 to 99%, of post Mahogany Poplar Mahogany shells are Mahogany Poplar Maple.

That's wrong too. Believe what you want. Have you looked at the edges with a magnifying glass?
