This drum is a bit of a mystery to me and I hope you experts can help me figure it out. I hope the pictures transmitted. If not, I will try again with a follow-on post. Based on the untampered badge, this would appear to be a 1930's marching drum 15x10" in size. But I cannot find any rope tension snare drums of this sort in 1930's catalogues. There is as you see no rim hardware for the ropes, only drilled holes. At first I thought it might be a 1940's war era drum, but the badge would indicate otherwise. Any thoughts please?
Ludwig 1930's Rope Tension Drum ?
1992 Ludwig Classic 6 piece Mahogany Stain + 8", 14" & 18"
2004 Ludwig Black Beauty 6.5", brass fittings
90th Ludwig Anniversary Top Hat & Cane 5" SD
1948 WFL Ludwig Super Classic WMP 6" SD
1970's Fibes 22", 16", 12" rewrap Top Hat & Cane
My thought is that the drum was probably made specifically for the army and that's why it's not in the old catalogs....? In other words, it wasn't offered to the public. I dunno...

An expert appeared and sent me a link. It turns out this is a WWI production drum. Mystery solved.

Did you mean "WWII" ?
The badge is from the 1930's.
I don't know how it would be possible to be from the 1914-1918 era.

Looking for a Camco Aristocrat SD in Blue Moire!!
kdg is correct. Drum is from the 30s. Someone drilled the hoops and installed the rope & leather tugs. The tuning knob on the snare tensioner isn't original. Looks like chrome. 60s or 70s, most likely.
The drum probably had a single tension set up. I don't see any holes for eyelets for lugs.
That drum just emanates mojo!! These old marchers are superb!!
Cheers

Thanks all for your input. The badge also led me to believe WWII, but an expert (I heard talk about rope tensioned drums on DrumHistoryPodcast) sent me the link above which appears to be a perfect match WWI. Go figure.

ssoccer, the drum in the link the expert provided has a different badge than your drum, so it's not a perfect match. Very puzzling as the badge in the experts link, while different from yours, is also generally listed as being post WWI. ???
You are absolutely right, badges don't match.

Did Ludwig ever make a rope tension without clips ? I have never seen one without clips. The drum in link says Ludwigold but has no Ludwigold on it anywhere.
