Ludwig 1400 stand with new rod/tilter Last viewed: 1 hour ago

I have a Ludwig 1400 flat base cymbal stand, and I need to replace the tilter. The actual tilter itself has teeth and separates from the rod. Can I put any other toothless tilter onto and affix it with epoxy? Would another brand toothless tilter and rod fit into the Ludwig base?

Thanks!

Is your old tilter shot or just won't stay on top of the rod? That was just a friction fit and you could add a bit of epoxy to keep it in place. Otherwise any tilter that will accommodate a 3/8ths inch rod should work. Most vintage tilters were designed to fit a 1/4" rod but newer designs should accept a bigger tube.

You could just try to replace then entire rod and tilter itself..

The Gibraltar 8600 series flat base stands will fit, as i've tried it with my 60's Ludwig flat base snare stand

bottom, although i don't know if just the upper section would fit.

It could very well be the case, seeing as how it looks just as thin..

You could also get the new Tama flat base stands which are well built and heavy duty,

although very light and not too beefy.. They look amazing, and also have the classic tooth tilter

To clarify, I plan on keeping the base part of the stand and middle tubing. I just want to replace the tilter. My question is whether a toothless tilter could fit into the current tubing or if that should be replaced as well?

Gibraltar makes a titler that would probably fit, only you'd have to cut off the original.

and there's this that may fit..

What do you mean by toothless? Are you speaking about the ratchet part that sets the angle? If so there wouldn't be too many vintage ones with that type of design. Pretty much everything had teeth, the exceptions being Rogers with the swivo ball, and Gretsch which used an older type sliding design. The Rogers was available as a separate tilter that should fit a 3/8ths inch rod (that's the size of the top tube of a 1400). I don't think the Gretsch was ever sold as a separate tilter. Some of Slingerland's tilters had such fine teeth that could almost qualify as toothless but they don't hold position all that well after they get some wear on them.

Okay, would the Gretsch ratchet fit into a Ludwig tube? Or, would a Gretsch ratchet in a Gretsch tube fit into a Ludwig tube?
