Looking For Some Slingerland Advice Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Loading...

I've been trying to put together a vintage all natural maple Slingerland kit for what seems like forever. I've had the the bass drum and the rack tom for a while now. Both are in excellent condition with reinforcement rings on the shells. However, finding the matching 16" floor tom at a reasonable price has proven extremely challenging.:(

The closest thing that I've seen to date is this 12 x 15 tom that would match the kit perfectly. I actually bought the rack tom that I've got from this seller. However, as you can see in the pics, it's got a mount installed on the shell.

Is there some sort of stand or "basket" out there that I could get to mount this 12 x 15 to utilize as a floor tom or "hanging" tom without having the stand tip over? Perhaps some sort of "combo" stand that could accept the drum and a cymbal? Again, my preference would be for a "normal" 16" floor tom but so far that's not happening!

Any words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!Bowing

I'm getting to the point where I'm considering selling the other two pieces as stand-alone items since a kit might not be in the works for me.

THANKS for your time and your help!

There are cradles made by RIMS and other RIMS type copiers. I have heard that the RIMS brand discontinued their cradle. But, other makers still produce theirs. They work very well with no need to drill the drum. The mount that is already on the drum would work well with a Set O Matic holder on a floor stand if you would want to use it that way. I personally detest "flying" the floor toms. The holes from the mount can be filled with dowels, and made to be barely visible if you want to keep the drums in the natural maple finish.

Here is a link to a listing on eBay that includes a cradle. There are cradles for various size drums. Generic tom legs complete the ensemble.

And, here are pictures of the cradle I used for the 10x14 tom with my Rogers Pink Strata set. I don't remember which brand this 14" cradle is. Notice one picture with vintage tom legs, and another with modern generic legs.

No matter how far you push the envelope, it is still stationery.

I, too was going to hawk the RIMS cradle. That's a great solution. I would use the mount that remains to hold a cool cowbell or some such thing. It will look as though it were "planned" and executed perfectly. None's the wiser.
