Looking for info on 20's ludwig Last viewed: 4 hours ago

Newbie hello...

I have pulled a ludwig snare and bass drum and perhaps a ludwig cymbal from an old pipe organ. It dates from the 20's and the badges support that. they def have a mahogany shell, and the lugs are not attached to the shells, but i haven't gotten into them any more than that. Are they anything to drool over or what?

I have been a drummer for 30 yrs, and worked on pipe organs for almost 15 of that, but I have no idea when dealing with vintage drums. I don't want to ruin their value, but perhaps set them up again how they were in the organ. Any insight, Ideas?

Thanks, that will give me some tips on the models, etc. They both have what seem to be skin heads (whats left of them) and definitely maple rims/hoops. Wire snares, but not with a normal throw-off, just a tension screw. It is too snowy/cold here in jersey to go back out to the garage tonight to get any more info and pics.

I will. I was wrong, there is a throw-off handle for the snares. I have figured out it is a "Thumb Rod" model with 10 lugs. It was pretty grimy, but is coming clean pretty easy. It is definitely out of round, and it looks like the bearing edge is unglued in one spot. Otherwise it is in great shape.
