Leedy Shelly Manne Snare

Hi

I have a Leedy Shelly Manne Snare, it doesn’t have the medal straps for the snare wires (it has string) I would like to replace the string, but I’m not sure what to use for the straps (brass ?) I looked on the web but could find any information. Anyone have a suggestion or what you’ve done in this situation?

My snare still has the straps. they are riveted to the snares which are wider than the drum head.
