Leedy Brass Badge Kit

I just came across a mint '55-56 brass badge Leedy kit BDP 13 (I think), 16, 22 w/ matching 5x14 for $895. Is this a good/fair price?

Unfortunately I can't get any pics. Sorry. It's way up above a stairwell at an old music store where the main guy doesn't like selling his old stuff too much. But it looks real pretty.

Without pictures, there is no way we can tell you what the set is worth. I know what my 1963 Leedy BDP 20-13-16-matching Shelly Manne snare is worth. If the set you're asking about is anywhere near as complete and as clean as mine, that price would be a bargain. If the drums are basket cases, a couple hundred dollars might be too much.

I think the drums might be close to the condition yours are in. Other than the badge, what other differences are there between a '56 and a '63?

I'm leaving the country tomorrow morning. When I get back, if they're still there (I really think they've been there a long, long time), I'm gonna pick them up.

If the 56 drums were made in the Chicago Slingerland factory, there should be little if any difference except for the unpainted brass badges on that set instead of the blue lacquered oval badge on my 1963 set. If, those you are looking at were some of the last drums made in the Elkhart Leedy & Ludwig factory (which I doubt), they would be great drum shells, but different in construction. It's remotely possible that Slingerland used some leftover Leedy & Ludwig shells when they bought the Leedy brand from CG Conn. Again, I seriously doubt that those BDP drums would be from the Elkart factory.

Right. They have the unpainted Chicago badges.

Still... In good condition, $895 seems a bargain, right?

I'll have to do my research on Leedy shell layups!!!
