THE SNARE, THE STANDS, AND THE CYMBALS IN THE PICTURE ARE NOT FOR SALE – ONLY THE GRETSCH DRUMS ARE!!!!

For sale: A very pretty, VG+ to VG++ condition, Gretsch round badge 6-ply kit in the following sizes:

9x13

16x16

14x22

Overall, the kit is in nice condition. When I got it, it was kind of a mess. It was very dirty and the interior of the kick had been panted black. The kick also had mismatching hoops, and T-rods and claws that did not match. I refurbished the kit and it looks great.

The hardware was cleaned and lubricated, and the interior of the kick was repainted with Rustoleum aluminum fence paint, which is a terrific match to the factory Gretsch paint. New Gretsch claws were added, and the the T-rods on the reso side of the kick were replaced with new Gretsch ones. (The T-rods on the batter side came with the kick. I don't have any idea what they are. They are shorter than the new Gretsch ones, and may be an older type Gretsch rod. Steel spacers were added to them so they would fit the new wood hoops, which were ordered from Precision Drum Co. and cut to vintage Gretsch specs. Precision also provided new blue glitter hoop inlays, which are a terrific match to the rest of the kit.)

The wrap on the kit is very vibrant, and aside from a few faint scratches (most notably, a 5" long light blemish under the 13" badge), it looks great. The FT seam is lifting slightly. One slight ding in the FT wrap and one slight ding on top of the kick were filled in with blue glitter that was almost a perfect match to the wrap. Unless you are a foot away from it and really looking closely, you can't tell.

The rail consolette is a replacement from Steve Maxwell; the arm and other pieces to it will be included in the sale. The kit came to me with 2 extra consolette holes drilled on top of the kick, to the left of the badge. There are currently 2 carriage bolts in them. The spurs and spur mounts are replacements. I do have what appear to be the original "spike" spurs, and they will also be included in the sale.

The toms have the paper labels. It looks as though a previous owner painted over the kick label when the interior was painted black. I didn't try to clean it up or remove it. When I repainted the kick interior silver, I painted over it. The die cast rims on the toms are a little wear on the FT and show a lot of wear on the 13. Overall, the lugs on all the pieces range from very little pitting to moderate+ pitting; the lugs did clean up nicely when I took the kit apart.

The tom and the FT have both sets of internal mufflers and they work well. The kick has a Pratt muffler; the felt and bottom plate are not currently installed, but will be included in the sale. The FT legs are from Gibraltar and are fairly worn.

It should be noted that all of the shells appear to be in round. But like many Gretsch kits of the era, getting heads to fit on a couple of the pieces can be a challenge. Both toms have fairly used coated Emperors on the batters and clear Ambassadors on the reso side. The FT doesn't have any issues. On the 13, the Emperor fit snugly. The kick has a SKII on the batter and a smooth white Ambassador with a replacement logo. The SKII fits nicely. The smooth Ambassador was a problem. I had to split the head collar at the seam to get it on the drum. I played the heck out of the kit for a solid month, and the reso never tore. The bearing edges on the toms are nice. The edges on the kick could probably use some light sanding.

I will only accept PayPal. I WILL NOT SELL OR SHIP TO INTERNATIONAL BUYERS, FOREIGN NATIONALS THAT HAPPEN TO BE LIVING AND/OR WORKING IN THE US, OR BUYERS FROM ALASKA OR HAWAII. There are no exceptions to this rule, so please, don’t even ask.

I am asking $1200 for this kit (shipping is included, and so is a set of padded gig bags)! OR...

I would be willing to trade for a 20" Spizzichino or an old 20" K. Ideally, I'm looking for something that could be used both as a crash/ride.

PM me for more info!

Thanks,

Buzz
